In this episode, Peter Brehm, a founding member and the current treasurer of the Frederick Center, shares what the Frederick Center is doing to support the LGBTQIA+ community and to create awareness and education for the Frederick community. Many challenging questions are tackled in this episode as Peter shares insight about the challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces, the progressive steps that are being taken to create greater inclusion, and how people can be better allies and a part of the solution.
After retiring from a career in the printing and publishing industry, Peter Brehm moved to Frederick and began working for Hood College as the budget and purchasing administrator for the Information Technology Department. He is the Treasurer for The Frederick Center, Inc., a nonprofit corporation dedicated to supporting, educating, linking, organizing, and providing outreach to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community of central Maryland. He is also the President of the Consistory for the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ; Treasurer for Friends of Kris Fair; Vice Chair for The Frederick County Coalition for the Homeless (FCCH); President of Friends of Baker Park; and is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, the Frederick HIV Coalition, and Friends of Waterford Park. He has received the Community Foundation of Frederick County Wertheimer Award and is a Kiwanis Club George P. Hixson Fellow and Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow.
